The beautiful riads of Marrakech were one of the many reasons Unique and I decided to plan a trip to Morocco. Searching the web for a place to stay we discovered the Riad Dar Attajmil – a riad that seemed like the perfect choice for us. Beautiful architecture, stunning rooftop and located between the Djemaa el Fna square and Mouassine Fountain, right in the Laksour quarter – perfect to explore the Medina with its countless markets.
Once we arrived at the riad we were greeted by Imbrahim. A gentle tall Moroccan with a warm smile. We walked into the place and were amazed by a huge banana plant growing from the ground into the sky as a central point of the cozy riad.
We sat down, and Hassan another employee welcomed us with warm mint tea and the keys to our room. We followed him upstairs and were mesmerized once we were standing in our place for 2 nights! Amazing interior, a huge comfortable bed, wooden details, traditional carpets and a luxurious stone carved bathroom. This place gave us the cozy feeling to be at home and a genuine Moroccan vibe at the same time.
That night we decided to explore the Medina and followed one of Hassan’s recommendations to the nearby restaurants. The next morning the sun allowed us to have breakfast on the rooftop – another highlight of the riad.
Countless flowers and orange trees, cosy little chill out areas, sun-beds on a little plateau above the rooftop and it’s own Hammam for ultimate relaxation.
This rooftop was an oasis of tranquility and beauty – we were sad to not have enough time to truly seize it since we left for a day-trip to Essaouira that day. When we returned around 8pm we were already awaited with a romantic dinner that the Dar Attajmil sets up for the guests after request. Rose buds and candles on the table, amazing decoration and style of the dining areas gave us the impression to be part of a romantic film.
We had olives and different spreads as a starter followed by a couscous chicken Tajine – one of the traditional dishes. The food was simply outstanding and we experienced a great service by the hotels employees. The riad gives you a feeling of tranquility and peace – birds are singing, a smooth scent of oriental incense is in the air, soft Moroccan music is playing quietly in the background, candles are lit during the late hours of the day and there is always someone at your disposal in case you have any questions or wishes. The next morning we met the friend of the owner Lucrezia. Manuela – a vibrant friendly Italian lady greeted us over breakfast and explained the different offers of the hotel – cooking classes including trips to the nearby markets, early morning and afternoon yoga classes, Hammam, and massage sessions are on the menu for the guests of the Dar Attajmil.
A place so rich in its offers that you don’t need a travel agency to give you the complete Marrakech experience. We felt very well taken care of and enjoyed our time in the riad to the fullest – staff, food, design and location make this riad to a high-end choice during your stay in Morocco.
