5 Reasons To Travel Alone

Traveling solo offers a certain degree of liberty that is indescribable. Many of us are travel-junkies at heart, we gather up images of distant places and stunning destinations. We moan through images of foreign cities and thus long to be there, we think, “let’s embark on an escapade” then we silently smother that voice down because of numerous reasons we give ourselves. Keep that voice alive and enjoy the escapade alone.

I’ve had many solo trips and so has Fabian, and now that we have one another we travel together which is great. However, for those of you who have yet to take a solo trip, we urge you to take that leap of faith.

Here are 5 reasons why it is often good to travel alone at least once in your lifetime.

  1. It Is Going To Build Your Confidence

I still feel a little bit nervous when I’m kicking off a solo trip, however in the end nothing makes me feel much more confident or capable than conquering the world on my own. Successfully placing your order for a meal in botched German, or figuring out the map and making it to that special spot.

  1. It’s often empowering

You will nudge yourself to the limit, and turn out a better person because of it. If you have no one to fall back on but yourself, you automatically learn to be resilient. Visiting a country where you don’t speak the language alone may be overwhelming at first, but after you overcome your fear you’ll realize you can do almost anything you put your mind to. You’ll gain a substantial amount of confidence and figure out that things you earlier thought were impossible are now on your bucket list.

  1. You will get to meet new people

You will not only meet new people, but will also experience something totally new. So just suppose you have taken a trip with friends you’re perhaps not likely to end up meeting anyone new on that journey. I mean, why would you when you have all the people you need, there with you? You’ll end up with completely new people, sitting by somebody on the bus, or sharing a table at a restaurant and just like that, you’ll get an insight into their lives and their tales.

  1. You will gain perspective

When you’re by yourself for an extended period of time you can’t help but do some genuine soul searching, regardless of what life decisions you’re striving through by the end of your trip, you’ll have a clearer understanding on what’s important to you and the mark you want to make on the world.

  1. You will learn to reflect

When you’re alone and you have all the time in the world, that is when you can listen to what you’re trying to tell yourself. There are no interferences, there are no whirring disturbances yearning for your attention. This is when life’s answers come to you. You get ease about what you want to do, what inspirations you have and what you wish in life.

Though it’s wonderful to travel with friends and family, nothing can match the unique experience of solo travel. Detached from your comfort zone, you are pushed to try new things, meet new people and also immerse yourself in the local culture. The lessons, memories, experiences, and friends made through going abroad alone will be invaluable.

So, give it a try! Take your first solo trip, and your soul will thank you later.

Fabian and Unique
